Disney+ is expanding its anime offerings due to the growing demand for this type of content, a trend that has already been recognized by clear competitor Netflix.
Jujutsu Kaisen, which has become one of the most acclaimed and successful animes in recent times, has been chosen by the platform as one of its major bets. However, this decision has brought some difficulties for new viewers who wish to follow the series in order.
Not even their first season
Despite having three seasons available, Disney+ has only enabled the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. This season includes the popular “Shibuya Arc” and has been well received, but its limitation to the second installment complicates things for newcomers who want to enjoy the plot from the beginning.
In contrast, Crunchyroll offers all seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen and the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0, making it the preferred option for those looking to watch the complete series. Netflix, for its part, also includes the first season and the movie in its catalog.
The production company MAPPA, responsible for the adaptation of Gege Akutami’s manga, is working on a fourth season of Jujutsu Kaisen, although a release date has not yet been announced. Additionally, the manga has reached its conclusion with the sequel Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, which could increase interest in future adaptations.
This move by Disney+ reinforces the trend of streaming platforms to diversify their libraries, especially in a market where anime is gaining more and more popularity. However, the strategy seems to be “putting the cart before the horse,” as major premieres are being prioritized over providing a complete experience for new viewers.
