Margot Robbie is in preliminary talks to star in and co-produce the remake of the iconic 1958 science fiction film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, which will be directed by Tim Burton. According to reports from Variety, the actress could be involved in the project under her production company LuckyChap, although her decision will depend on the final version of the script, which currently does not have a writer following the departure of Gillian Flynn, who had drafted the first version.
An Attack on Our Childhood!
The original film, directed by Nathan H. Juran and starring Allison Hayes as the wealthy heiress Nancy Fowler Archer, focuses on the story of a woman who, after a close encounter with an alien, transforms into a giant. This title has become a cult classic within the science fiction genre, influencing numerous later productions about giant humans, such as The Amazing Colossal Man and Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. In 1993, Christopher Guest made a version for HBO that also explored this theme, with Daryl Hannah in the leading role.
Robbie has just finished filming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, where she shares the stage with Colin Farrell, as well as an adaptation of Wuthering Heights. If her participation in Burton’s film is confirmed, it would mark a reunion with Warner Bros, the studio responsible for the successful movie Barbie, which grossed $1.45 billion at the global box office.
A release date for The Attack of the 50 Foot Woman has not yet been set, and fans of cinema and science fiction are eagerly awaiting more details about this promising project that combines a classic story with a contemporary film team. In the meantime, other exciting movies scheduled for 2025 and beyond can be explored.
