The Arcadion raid series in Final Fantasy XIV has captured the attention of the player community thanks to its wrestling theme and the presentation of its 12 encounters, each with its own unique identity. What sets this series apart is the development team’s decision to include an exclusive theme song for each of its fighters, a practice that is not always applied in other raids of the game that usually group several fights under the same musical theme.
A very sensual topic
Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, responsible for localization and lyricist of the series, has conducted in-depth research on unconventional topics, such as BDSM, to create lyrics that reflect the essence of the characters. During a panel at the North American Fan Festival, he shared his creative process, illuminating the dedication and effort involved in crafting lyrics that are provocative yet respectful of the BDSM community, avoiding stereotypes.
Koji Fox mentioned that often, writing lyrics not only involves reviewing mission dialogues but also researching themes that are foreign to him. En the case of the fighter Vamp Fatale, whose song is one of the most prominent in the series, he classified her fighting style with visual elements ranging from bat wings to leather outfits. This fight, which highlights the more seductive and provocative side of the content, has particularly resonated with players.
The team’s focus on the diversity and uniqueness of each fight has added an extra layer of appeal to the game’s raids, leaving many eager to face these colorful characters and enjoy their unmistakable melodies. This series has not only been a success in terms of gameplay mechanics, but it has also enriched the musical experience of the title.
