Frank Grillo has brought Rick Flag, Sr. to life in Creature Commandos, an animated series that marks the beginning of the new DC universe, under the direction of James Gunn. However, his appearance in the series has generated some criticism among fans due to the color of his hair, which does not match that of his character in the animated series. Grillo has explained that his work commitments on the show Tulsa King prevented him from changing the color of his hair, which led some followers to express their discontent.
Gray hairs don’t spare anyone
In an interview, Grillo addressed this topic and expressed optimism regarding his future appearances in the DC universe. “I think next time, if I’m not fired, I’ll have white hair,” he said, referring to his role as the main antagonist in the second season of Peacemaker, which premieres on August 21 on HBO Max in the U.S. and Sky in the U.K. This upcoming appearance will likely better align his look with that of Rick Flag, Sr. in Creature Commandos.
Grillo is also one of the few Superman actors who has technically appeared in this new DC universe before Gunn’s big reboot. The connection of his character with Rick Flag, Jr. and the dynamic between them adds a layer of emotion to his return in Peacemaker, where he will seek revenge after the death of his son at the hands of Peacemaker.
The fan community is eager to see how Grillo integrates into the second season, and it is likely that emphasis will be placed on the visual details that have attracted the attention of followers. With the new phase of DCU under Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, many titles are set to be released in the coming months, creating expectations about the future direction of this expanded universe.
