The movie Galaxy Quest, released in 1999, has become a classic that many associate with Christmas parties. This link, although not originating from its plot, has been etched in the memory of several viewers who watched it during Christmas Eve dinner. Sigourney Weaver, one of the stars of this parody and homage to Star Trek, recently shared her experience in an interview, recalling that more suggestive scenes were removed to make the film suitable for a younger audience. This decision, made by the producers at DreamWorks to compete with other family films of the time, affected the final material of the movie.

Weaver comments that, although the film was originally conceived as an adult comedy, certain sequences were censored, leading to speculation about the existence of a director’s cut. According to her, “it would be great if they released a director’s cut”, suggesting that the moments that were not included could have a special appeal today, especially in the streaming era.
Additionally, Weaver recalled that there were attempts to develop a sequel. Screenwriter Bob Gordon wrote a draft, but it was shelved after Alan Rickman’s death, which demotivated the creative team. Nevertheless, the conversation about a possible continuation remains ongoing, sparking interest among fans. Meanwhile, the Star Trek franchise is in full expansion with multiple projects in development, although there are no updates on the return of other related titles, such as The Orville or Galaxy Quest.
