The popular manga Gachiakuta, created by Kei Urana, will be adapted into an anime exclusive to Crunchyroll, scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2025. The production will be handled by Bones Film, a studio known for its acclaimed adaptations of series such as My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
A dystopian story with a dark background
The story follows Rudo, a young man who, after being falsely accused of murder, is exiled to The Pit, a dystopian city that floats in an endless abyss and is filled with garbage and criminals. This sordid environment reflects a social critique by presenting a world where the poor struggle to survive under the opulence of the rich, who discard their waste into the void, leaving others to deal with the consequences. Crunchyroll describes Rudo’s journey as a desperate attempt to change the world that has condemned him: “He returns from the abyss of Hell to change this miserable world!”
In The Pit, the hostile environment has spawned monstrous creatures, and to survive and seek revenge against those who betrayed him, Rudo must master new powers and join a group known as the Cleaners, who confront the waste beasts that threaten their existence.
Since its serialization began in 2022, Gachiakuta has stood out not only for its intriguing narrative but also for its unique visual aesthetic, inspired by graffiti and developed in collaboration with artist Hideyoshi Andou. This visual proposal complements the complexity of the story, offering an immersive experience to readers and now, to future viewers of the anime.
