Do androids still dream of electric sheep?

This new series is set 80 years after the iconic original ‘Blade Runner’ film and 50 years after the acclaimed sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve. The story follows Cora, a character played by Hunter Schaffer, who assumes a final identity to ensure a stable future for her brother. Cora teams up with Olwen, a blade runner played by the Oscar-winning Michelle Yeoh, suggesting a focus on the dynamic between the two characters in a complex and dystopian futuristic world.

The main cast is completed with other actors such as Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, and Daniel Rigby. Participation from recurring actors such as Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham has also been confirmed.

‘Blade Runner 2099’ is created by Silka Luisa, and the first two episodes are directed by Jonathan van Tulleken. Since its announcement nearly three years ago, the project has faced multiple delays, especially due to the strikes in Hollywood in 2023, leading to high expectations surrounding its development and the future of this beloved film franchise.

While there are rumors that the plot will delve into themes of identity and what it means to be human in a technology-controlled world, an official statement is still awaited to clarify more details about this intriguing return to the ‘Blade Runner’ universe.
