Naughty Dog’s next project, titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, was presented during the recent The Game Awards gala and is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious games in the studio’s history. Neil Druckmann, the director of the title, has shared that the team is currently working intensely on its development, reflecting the high expectations placed on this science fiction title set in an alternate future.

Can the unbeatable be surpassed?

Intergalactic focuses on the character of Jordan A. Mun, played by actress Tati Gabrielle, and will take place on a planet called Sempiria, which has its own history, conflicts, and mythologies. In this context, Jordan becomes a bounty hunter and begins to unravel a mystery that connects the planet’s politics with its religion. This narrative approach suggests a deeper development of the lore and characters, in line with Naughty Dog’s tradition.

Druckmann has emphasized that this new title will offer more freedom and options to the player, representing an evolution from The Last of Us: Part 2. Although no release date has been announced, it has been confirmed that Intergalactic will be exclusive to PS5. Additionally, the team has mentioned that internal testing of the game is already underway, indicating that development is progressing well.

Regarding the cast, alongside Gabrielle, Tony Dalton and Troy Baker join, known for his participation in the franchise The Last of Us. Furthermore, Druckmann has hinted at the possibility of future installments within this universe, emphasizing the intention to position Intergalactic as Naughty Dog’s next big leap in the world of video games. The company is also in contact with several Hollywood studios to explore a film adaptation, although the priority will be to deliver an exceptional video game before moving in that direction.

Naughty Dog, the renowned studio behind hits like The Last of Us, is at the peak of anticipation with its upcoming project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, an ambitious science fiction adventure set thousands of years in an alternate future. Five years after its last release, the arrival of this game has become a highly anticipated event for fans of the industry.

Kiss me until the haters are left speechless

Despite the widespread enthusiasm, the title has faced criticism and hate campaigns, especially directed towards its protagonist, actress Tati Gabrielle. However, the actress has shown a proactive attitude towards the criticism, assuring that the game will offer a surprising experience that will win over everyone, even its detractors. Gabrielle has praised the direction of Neil Druckmann, who has personally guided every gesture and glance of her character, allowing for a unique immersion in the world of the video game.

The filming of Intergalactic included motion capture suits and sets designed to facilitate realistic interaction between the actors and the digital environment. Gabrielle compared her creative process to the experience of a lost child in an imaginary world, emphasizing the dedication of the Naughty Dog team to create believable and fascinating worlds.

As the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet began in 2020, an official release date has not yet been established. However, some reports suggest that the game will not hit the market before 2027. In addition to Gabrielle, the cast will feature recognized talents such as Tony Dalton and Kumail Nanjiani, as well as Halley Gross, writer of The Last of Us: Part II, which raises even more expectations for the title that promises to redefine storytelling in video games.

Naughty Dog, the studio behind iconic titles like The Last of Us, has revealed new details about its upcoming game titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. During a nearly hour-long conversation at Sony’s Creator to Creator event, co-president Neil Druckmann, accompanied by director Alex Garland, discussed the inspirations and creative process behind this ambitious project, set in an alternate future 2000 years ahead from the 1980s.

Surely it won’t go unnoticed

The game will explore complex themes of faith and religion, focusing on a new religion that evolves over the years after a cataclysmic event that interrupts all communication. According to Druckmann, the game will take place on a planet where the playable character, Jordan A Mun, finds himself completely alone after crashing while pursuing his target. This environment will serve to highlight the feeling of confusion and loneliness, distancing itself from the team dynamics presented in previous titles.

Druckmann also made a humorous statement about the possibility of receiving less controversy with this new title compared to The Last of Us: Part II, which generated significant divisions among players. Hwe made certain creative decisions that led us to receive hate, he commented, suggesting that the focus on faith and religion could be less controversial, although we have serious doubts about this.

As the narrative unfolds, the story behind the game’s religion will develop, showing how it has been altered and evolved over centuries. Although an official release date has not been announced, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is expected to be available for PlayStation 5, which could mark a new chapter in Naughty Dog’s video game narrative.

Naughty Dog, the studio behind successful franchises like Uncharted and The Last of Us, revealed its new project titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet during The Game Awards 2024. This ambitious science fiction game follows the story of a bounty hunter on the distant planet Sempiria, an environment where players will face a deep narrative centered on faith and religion.

Now we know some new details about Intergalactic

According to Neil Druckmann, creative director of Naughty Dog, the game takes place in a universe that diverges from ours since the 1980s, establishing a 2000-year history for the religion of Sempiria. This culture has been isolated from galactic communication for the last 600 years before the start of the game, adding an air of mystery and disconnection. The game’s narrative is designed to immerse players in an experience of solitude and disorientation in a world full of enigmatic characters and a background that they will have to discover for themselves.

During a podcast titled Creators to Creators, Druckmann explained that Naughty Dog’s intention is for players to feel lost within an environment that feels foreign to them. Despite the excitement generated by the announcement, the studio has confirmed that Intergalactic is still in development for the PS5 console and no release window has been defined. Druckmann admitted that they still have a long way to go in creating the game and that he does not have a clear vision of the final form the project will take.

With this announcement, Naughty Dog aims to launch a new franchise that explores complex themes in an unexpected context, which promises to provide players with an enriching experience in an increasingly interconnected and complex state of the video game industry.
