Disney+ has released the first three episodes of Ironheart, the new Marvel series starring Dominique Thorne, who reprises her role as Riri Williams, previously introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The series marks a significant return for the young superheroine, who is in Chicago, her hometown, and gets involved in a plot with the enigmatic Parker Robbins, played by Anthony Ramos.
Passing the baton
During the series premiere in Los Angeles on June 23, Thorne shared that since her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she was always aware of the continuity her character would have. She expressed that the plans to develop Ironheart had been in mind since the beginning of her introduction in Wakanda Forever. “They presented it as wanting to make the series and said: Sure, we introduced her in Wakanda Forever’, the actress stated.
A highlight of the production was Thorne’s meeting with Robert Downey Jr., who passed on the legacy of Iron Man. This important meeting was facilitated by Alden Ehrenreich, co-star of Ironheart, who considered it natural. Thorne expressed admiration for the perception that Downey Jr. has of her work, which adds special meaning to her role as the heir to Iron Man.
Executive producer Ryan Coogler, who also directed the Black Panther movies, emphasized the opportunity to expand Riri Williams’ narrative in Chicago, a city that had not been previously explored in the MCU. We always knew there was a possibility to build her entire world, Coogler remarked, highlighting the excitement of bringing together a prominent creative team.
The first three episodes of Ironheart are now available on Disney+, and the last three episodes will premiere on July 2nd.
