The animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch will premiere on Netflix on October 14, offering a new narrative that is detached from direct adaptations of the video games. This production delves into a drama that touches on the past of its protagonist, Sam Fisher, who faces an antagonist related to Douglas Shetland, a former friend of his. This development promises to explore the consequences of past decisions that shaped Fisher’s life.
We had never seen Sam Fisher like this
In the latest trailer for Deathwatch, there is a reference to a gravestone of Douglas Shetland, who played a prominent role in the video games Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. His betrayal of the homeland led Sam to make the difficult decision to eliminate him, an act that seems to have gained relevance in his present, given that his daughter, Diana Shetland, has risen as CEO of Xanadu, a corporation at the center of an emerging crisis.
The renowned actor Liev Schreiber will lend his voice to Sam Fisher in the series, marking a transition, as Michael Ironside, who has been the iconic voice of the protagonist in most of the video games, will not participate in this project. Additionally, the cast includes actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste as a new agent, Zinnia McKenna, and Janet Varney as Anna “Grim” Grímsdóttir.
The script and production are handled by Derek Kolstad, known for being the co-creator of the successful series John Wick, while the animation is done by Sun Creature Studio and Fost. The series arrives at a time when fans are also awaiting updates on the Splinter Cell remake, which was announced in 2022 but has not received significant news since then.
