A-1 Pictures, the studio behind the successful adaptation of Solo Leveling, has reported significant losses in its latest fiscal report, raising uncertainty about the future of the anime. Despite these economic setbacks, the team remains steadfast in its intention to continue with the series, seeking collaboration with Aniplex and Crunchyroll, as well as support from the fan community. Although a third season has not been officially confirmed, both parties seem optimistic.
An anime that doesn’t make money
In just two years, Solo Leveling has established itself as the most-watched anime on Crunchyroll and has won the award for Best Anime at the recent Anime Awards. This growth has not been without challenges, including the cancellation of the sequel and a decline in manhwa sales. However, if there is one thing that is certain, it is that the franchise has captured global interest, motivating the studio to improve and offer more quality content.
Shunsuke Nakashige, project director, has declared his commitment to elevate the adaptation in future chapters, emphasizing that the level of animation in the fights is a priority, even more so than the plot itself. This vision has been supported by producers Sota Furuhashi and Kanako Takahashi, who acknowledge the pressure of not disappointing the high expectations of fans, but also assure that they feel more confident now than in the past.
As the team prepares for the next stage of Solo Leveling, the producers are also planning international events, aiming to keep the series present in markets outside of Japan and South Korea. In this context, Crunchyroll has reaffirmed its commitment to support Solo Leveling as a global platform. Despite the ups and downs, the willingness of the community and the creators to continue this story remains intact.
