The highly anticipated release of the remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is scheduled for July 15 on multiple platforms, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This new release promises to offer fans a mix of redesigned maps and the inclusion of new skaters, such as Doomslayer, alongside classic figures like Tony Hawk and Bob Burnquist.
A necessary standardization to provide coherence to the title
One of the most discussed decisions has been the standardization of the THPS 4 campaign to align with the format of THPS 3. Although Iron Galaxy, the developer behind the game, aims to create a cohesive and more integrated package, this move has generated criticism among fans who preferred the original format of the game. The design director, Mike Rossi, explained that the goal is to make this a “definitive” package of both titles, focusing on a gameplay experience similar to the successful remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 released in 2020.
Despite the changes, the remakes will offer modes like Free Skate, Speed Run, and Single Session, allowing players to explore the maps freely and customize timers to complete challenges. Although the traditional format of completing challenges freely in THPS 4 will be removed, players will still be able to enjoy options that allow them to play at their own pace.
Additionally, if the commercial success of THPS 3 + 4 is favorable, Tony Hawk has expressed interest in remaking Tony Hawk’s Underground, indicating that there could be more remasterizations on the horizon. All of this suggests that the legacy of the franchise continues and that Iron Galaxy is committed to delivering an experience that satisfies both longtime fans and new players.
