According to the actor,the essence of the first installment lay in its moral core, and not in the lavishness or the action that, according to him, dominate the sequel.

Does not understand narrative decisions

Crowe emphasized that on the movie set, there was a daily struggle to preserve the essence of the character Maximus. The actor expressed his dissatisfaction with some suggestions he considered detrimental to the narrative and the strength of the character, such as the inclusion of intimate scenes that, in his opinion, would undermine Maximus’s power.
