The new Reliquary system, introduced in Season 8 of Diablo 4, has generated controversy among players due to its confusing structure and the perception that it offers fewer rewards than the old battle pass system. This change has led to an active debate in the community, especially on platforms like Reddit, where players have expressed their frustration over the lack of clarity in the rewards and the complicated categorization of them.
It is possible to end up losing money due to the system
Players have the option to earn tokens in free matches, but they are also offered the possibility to purchase rewards using Platinum, the game’s premium currency. This design has raised complaints about the accidental spending of real money, as the interface allows users to make purchases without proper confirmation. A mistake in controlling their purchase could lead to an immediate loss of up to 7 euros, increasing criticism about the usability of the system.
Additionally, the purchase model for Reliquaries has been examined in more detail. Players can acquire individual Reliquaries for 500 Platinum or a Battle Pass Bundle that promises savings by offering all three for 1,000 Platinum. However, a prior purchase of one of the Reliquaries individually may prevent access to the bundle and force players to spend more on additional purchases. On the other hand, the Deluxe Battle Pass Bundle, which costs almost three times that of the standard, has received similar criticism for offering rewards that do not justify its high price.
Blizzard has acknowledged the “overwhelming feedback” and has committed to improving the system in future seasons, although they have confirmed that no significant changes will be made in Season 9. In their roadmap for 2025, they have also announced the introduction of new features, such as the ability to create spells and a second expansion planned for 2026.
