The debut of The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is just around the corner, scheduled for April 24, 2025. Created by acclaimed video game directors Kazutaka Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi, this tactical RPG has faced multiple financial challenges, as it is the first original intellectual property of the studio Too Kyo Games. Kodaka, known for his work on the Danganronpa series, revealed in a recent interview that fundraising has proven to be “extremely difficult”.
A game that could bankrupt its creators
Despite splitting the production costs 50/50 with the publisher Aniplex, the constant changes in specifications have increased expenses throughout the process. “Every time new features were added, I thought, ‘This is going to cost more money,'” Kodaka commented. However, both developers decided to continue with the project, despite having accumulated a considerable debt.
Meanwhile, Masahiro Sakurai, director of the famous Super Smash Bros. series, has shared that he has high expectations for the new title, although he admits to having only a “vague idea” of what it is about, as he has avoided all information regarding it. As the release date approaches, interest in The Hundred Line continues to grow, and many players are eager to explore its multiple narrative paths.
