The recent release of the Torrente saga, titled Torrente Presidente, has performed outstandingly in Spain, where it has already become one of the 25 highest-grossing films in history. However, its success has not been replicated in the same way abroad, especially in Argentina, where it has only accumulated 7,369 viewers in its first two weekends, far from the expectations surrounding its release.
An absolute failure
In contrast, Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis had reached 80,000 viewers at its premiere in Argentina, making this figure the highest in the saga in the country. The previous installments, which have focused on criticizing Spanish society, managed to resonate more effectively with the Argentine audience. According to some analysts, the shift towards parodying Spanish political figures in Torrente Presidente could be a factor that has limited its appeal abroad.
The situation is particularly concerning for the future of the film in Argentine cinemas, where it is expected that Torrente Presidente will not even reach 10,000 tickets sold, a minimum that would be insufficient to avoid becoming the least successful film in the saga in the country. So far, the film occupies the tenth position in the Argentine box office and has suffered a notable drop in its revenue compared to the previous week.
Despite these negative figures in the Argentine market, Torrente Presidente continues to enjoy remarkable success in Spain, where it will remain in theaters before its arrival on Netflix this coming summer. The saga of Santiago Segura continues to be a phenomenon in its country of origin, although its international journey has not been as favorable.
