The remaster of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, released on June 10, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and PC, has resulted in disappointing performance compared to the expectations generated after the success of its sequel, Space Marine 2, which has sold over 7 million copies. Despite this impressive figure associated with the latest game in the franchise, the new edition has recorded fewer than 130 simultaneous players and currently has only 30 concurrent users on Steam.
Technical issues
According to pre-launch analysis, the lack of promotion was a determining factor in this failure. The public’s attention was focused on Space Marine 2, leaving the remaster in the background. Additionally, its absence on the PS5 platform further limited community interest, increasing the perception that the remaster, titled Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition, was destined for oblivion.
The criticism has been harsh on platforms like Steam, where players point out technical issues, a desolate multiplayer, and a price that does not justify the experience offered. Many fans believe that the Anniversary version of the game is superior, as the remaster only updates textures but does not fix interface errors or improve other aspects of the original title.
A critical point is also the inefficiency of cross-play between Xbox and Steam, which limits the multiplayer experience. User comments on Steam suggest that the issues are widespread, which could indicate that this remaster of Warhammer 40,000 is becoming a historical failure for Sega and Relic Entertainment.
