Tesla is ramping up efforts to stimulate demand in the U.S. market by unveiling a series of discounts and incentives amid a troubling slump in vehicle sales.
The automaker has now extended its discount program to include students, teachers, first responders, military veterans, and active-duty service members, offering up to $1,000 in credits applicable to their entire vehicle lineup.
This initiative also includes Lyft drivers, who can receive an additional $1,000 credit on delivery and another $1,000 from Lyft after completing 100 rides.
Incentives for Students and First Responders: Tesla’s Bid to Boost Demand
These discounts come as Tesla grapples with a significant downturn in sales, with global numbers reported to be around 50,000 units below expectations.
The primary culprit appears to be an oversupply of vehicles, particularly the updated Model Y, which is now facing low demand despite production returning to normal levels. Inventory issues have escalated to the point where many vehicles are sitting idle on lots across the U.S. market.
In a recent communication, Tesla has also urged Cybertruck reservation holders to make their purchase decisions quickly, as the price for the Full Self-Driving package is set to increase from $7,000 to $8,000 after June 15, 2025. This scare tactic seems to indicate Tesla’s urgency to boost orders for the Cybertruck, a model that has yet to meet commercial expectations since its reservation launch in 2019.
Moreover, employees within Tesla have taken a stand by penning an open letter calling for the removal of CEO Elon Musk, citing significant brand damage and declining demand as persistent issues plaguing the company. These internal concerns reflect wider anxieties about the brand’s future as competitors gain ground in the evolving electric vehicle market.
