This installation would be located at 19300 S Hamilton Ave, near the city of Carson, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, a strategic location due to its proximity to the 405 and 110 freeways, as well as the Port of Long Beach.

The launch of this Megacharger station is a significant step for Tesla, especially with the mass production of the Tesla Semi, which is expected to begin later this year at a new factory adjacent to Gigafactory Nevada.

What the Tesla truck needs to start operating

So far, only a few Semi trucks are circulating on American roads, mostly in Tesla’s internal fleet and with some selected customers, highlighting the importance of establishing adequate charging infrastructure before a wider deployment of the vehicle.

The Megachargers that will be installed at this station can provide charges of over 1 MW, which means that a Tesla Semi could recover up to 70% of its range of 800 km after 30 minutes of charging.

This advance will not only help facilitate the operation of these trucks on commercial routes, but it also could contribute to a significant increase in the adoption of heavy electric vehicles, a sector that faces major challenges in terms of charging infrastructure.
