The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Shams Jorjani, has revealed that the upcoming significant update for Helldivers 2 promises to cause the death of “many Helldivers”. During a Q&A session on Discord, Jorjani could not provide more specific details, although his comment gives a clear idea of the dark tone that characterizes the game and its previous updates.
It seems that the community is going to have a tough time soon
Players have expressed their concern about the future of the title, especially after Jorjani’s indications that the development roadmap is underway. According to him, the team is analyzing ways to share information about quality of life improvements and other aspects, while keeping certain elements of the narrative secret, to preserve the surprise in future content.
Additionally, Jorjani addressed concerns about the Major Orders, the most challenging missions in the game, commenting that while some may be extremely difficult, none have been designed to be “mathematically impossible.” He noted that the community has shown a remarkable ability to overcome great challenges, suggesting that the game is enriched by the diversity of players’ approaches.
The development approach of Arrowhead is considered similar to that of a dungeon master in a role-playing game, where different outcomes for a campaign are planned, leaving some details up in the air to maintain interest. Jorjani indicated that, while they have a general direction for upcoming content, the exact details are still up in the air.
Finally, the Arc Raiders team has also taken inspiration from Helldivers 2 by changing its business model from free to a cost of $40, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an accessible price for players. This highlights a trend in the market towards more sustainable business models in the world of video games.
