Miles Teller, who played Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in the successful movie Top Gun: Maverick, has made a peculiar request to his co-star Tom Cruise in case a third installment of the aerial franchise is planned. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Teller joked saying: “Tell Tom I need enough time to get in shape. One month for each ab; I need six months’ notice”.
Top Gun: Maverick, released in May 2022, became a box office phenomenon, grossing 1.48 billion dollars worldwide and marking the highest-grossing title of that year. The film not only revived nostalgia with references to the original 1986 film, which included a cameo by Val Kilmer as Iceman, but also offered a renewed focus on mentorship and Maverick’s quest for redemption, once again played by Cruise.
There is no confirmed new sequel, but there is a lot of interest
Despite the critical and commercial success of the sequel, Teller clarified that he has no control over the potential sequel: “I have nothing to do with that. But there is a lot of enthusiasm from both the fans and the creative team”, he expressed. The expectation of a new adventure in the Danger Zone remains alive, although there is no official confirmation yet.
While there is speculation about the future of Top Gun, Teller is preparing for his next project, The Gorge, a science fiction and horror film that will premiere on February 14 on Apple TV+. In this film, Teller will share the lead with Anya Taylor-Joy and Sigourney Weaver, exploring a story of tension and love in an environment full of dangers and adversities.
