Google Messages, the company’s messaging application, might be close to including a much-anticipated feature: the “Delete for everyone” option.
This feature will allow users to delete sent messages, removing them not only from their own feed but also from the chats of all participants.
Currently, the delete function only affects the sender, leaving the messages visible to others. This new option aligns with features already offered by other popular applications like WhatsApp, where deleted messages are replaced by a notice indicating they have been deleted.
Improvements for the Google Messages App
According to reports from AssembleDebug, the latest beta version of Google Messages contains references to this new functionality. However, it is important to note that the delete option will only be available in RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats and not in SMS, due to the intrinsic nature of traditional text messages.
For now, no information has been provided about a time limit for deletions, although it is likely that users will not be able to delete messages indefinitely.
For example, WhatsApp allows deletions up to two days after sending, while Apple’s iMessage offers a two-minute window to “unsend” messages.
This advancement is part of the implementation of the universal RCS 2.7 profile, which was launched in June and also introduced other improvements such as standardized responses and better spam reporting.
Despite these updates, there is still no set date for the release of these features in Google Messages, so users will have to patiently wait for new announcements on the matter in the coming months.
