According to the latest rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max would bring a significant increase in charging speed, both wired and wireless. A change that would make the time needed to fully charge the battery of these new devices decrease considerably.
Up to 40W through cable and 20W on a compatible wireless charger
So far, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro offer a maximum charging speed of 27W with a suitable USB-C power adapter. As for wireless charging, official MagSafe chargers and authorized third-party chargers can charge iPhone 15 models up to a maximum of 15W. These specifications allow all four iPhone 15 models to reach a 50% charge in approximately 30 minutes with a 20W or higher adapter, thus maintaining similar speeds to previous generations such as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.
However, the novelty for the Pro models in the iPhone 16 line is remarkable. According to reports from ITHome, Apple plans to increase charging capabilities to 40W via cable and 20W wirelessly. This increase in charging speed aims, among other things, to “compensate for and improve charging times that are affected by the increase in battery capacity”.
This is not the first time we hear this rumor, and yet now it seems to gain a little more strength. The truth, however, is that there are still several months to go before an official confirmation. In the meantime, it is true that Apple has been evolving battery control on iPhones.
The possibility of seeing charging cycles, having a more detailed battery health view or the extended charging limits of the iPhone 15 Pro in iOS 18 depends on the phone’s chips. Chips that could now give Apple the confidence to allow batteries to charge faster.
If we add to this the fact that the battery of the iPhone 16 can be substantially changed and at the same time offer us more capacity, the rumors make sense. Sooner or later, charging speeds have to increase, although it remains to be seen, of course, to what values and at what time.
