Apple will release the iPhone 16 models in less than a month, and this time we will have some clever updates for the standard and Pro models, something that will go beyond a better chip for the more expensive models.
In terms of design, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models are receiving solid updates with the new action button and capture for specific functionalities that we will now explain.
As for the long-awaited button, according to the information, the devices will come with an Action Button similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models with all the bells and whistles attached.
What will the new button of the iPhone 16 family offer?
The new capture button that will be available on all four models of the iPhone 16, and it will be designed to handle the video recording capabilities of the device.
The same button would have multiple functionalities attached in the camera department, which would allow the iPhone 16 to be much closer to a DSLR camera. If you are not familiar, these are the functions that the capture button of the iPhone 16 could perform:
- Pressing lightly the Capture Button to autofocus while taking a video or a photo.
- A strong press will capture a photo or start video recording.
- Swipe left and right to zoom in the photo or video.
- Other gestures to switch between camera modes.
As you can see, the capture button of the iPhone 16 models will imitate the functionality of the shutter button on DSLR cameras and will probably do more with gesture support.
We believe that users will not be allowed to customize the functions of the Capture Button, assigning them to something else if it doesn’t fit their needs. This is because the iPhone already has a dedicated action button for this task, which is located in the same place as the mute switch.
Regarding the position of the capture button, previous renders have shown that it will be located flush with the iPhone frame and below the side or power button.
Since the capture button is capacitive in nature, it also leaves room for gesture controls, which we think is great. Mark Gurman previously stated that there is a possibility that the new capture button will be available exclusively on high-end flagship models, allowing Apple to maintain the differences between standard models and Pro models.
