Fans of Mummy will be delighted to see Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser return to their iconic roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan in Mummy 4.

This long-anticipated return, which has been the subject of speculation for years, was confirmed by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known as Radio Silence.

Whose tomb?

The fourth installment of the saga, scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on May 19, 2028, will not take into account The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a decision that has surprised some fans.

Bettinelli-Olpin made it clear that Weisz’s absence in the third film affected the perception of the movie, and with her return confirmed, the new film aims to revitalize the essence that made the saga famous. “The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is not canon for us,” the director stated.

The script, written by Dave Coggeshall, has been well received by both actors, which played a key role in their decision to participate in this new project.

Bettinelli-Olpin indicated that “I don’t think Brendan and Rachel would get involved unless they loved the script” and emphasized that both found the screenplay “beautiful, terrifying, and overwhelming.”

The Mummy saga began in 1999 with a huge box office success, followed by its sequel in 2001. However, the third installment, which premiered in 2008, received mixed reviews and although it achieved an acceptable performance at the box office, it failed to meet fan expectations.
