The Odyssey has had a budget of 250 million dollars. A very hefty budget that places it alongside recent blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or Gladiator II, but with an added problem. Or it would be a problem if it weren’t a film by Christopher Nolan. The classification agencies have assigned it an exclusive rating for those over 18 years old.

The Odyssey Will Make No Prisoners

According to Variety, the film has an R rating in the US, which means that, in the United States, minors will not be able to see the movie without being accompanied by an adult. And while we don’t know why it has been given such a harsh rating, only one thing is necessary for that to happen: to make an adult, violent film with sex where directors and screenwriters do not actively hold back to ensure they do not end up with this rating. Or at least, that their producers make sure of it.

In any case, The Odyssey is only the second most expensive R-rated movie in history. The most expensive is, by a huge margin, Deadpool and Wolverine. With a budget of 533 million, of which it managed to make back just over 1.338 billion at the box office, it is a demonstration that the rating means nothing when it comes to making a good revenue.

Given that Oppenheimer made 975 million dollars in revenue with a budget of 100 million with a much narrower focus, it is expected that La Odisea will widely surpass the revenue of its predecessor.
