The movie The Assistant, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney, has achieved notable box office success, grossing 374 million dollars globally on a budget of only 35 million. This psychological thriller, based on the novel by Freida McFadden, tells the story of Millie, a young woman trying to escape her past who ends up working for the Winchester family, who hide dark secrets.

What did you produce?

Amanda Seyfried, who plays Nina Winchester, recently shared that she had no prior knowledge of her role as executive producer of the film. In a statement, she expressed her surprise at finding out three weeks later that her agent had negotiated this role. “I was a producer and I didn’t know until three weeks later. I called one of the producers and said: You have me as an executive producer”, Seyfried commented, reflecting her expectations about the film’s success.

The enthusiasm for a sequel is already generating conversations, even if her character does not appear in the novel that continues the story. Seyfried has hinted at her possible involvement, stating: “No one has said anything about the sequel, but I guarantee you there will be one. I can almost guarantee that I will have a small cameo“. This second film will be developed by Lionsgate, which has assigned director Paul Feig and Sydney Sweeney to bring the story to life based on the second novel in McFadden’s trilogy.

In addition, writer Rebecca Sonnenshine is taking on the script adaptation, which adds more anticipation among fans of the first installment. With the growing popularity of The Assistant, it is likely that the sequel will become another notable success within the genre, confirming that cinema in theaters is far from being extinguished as some predict.
