The social network aiming to dethrone Twitter has started off on the right foot. Just four days after its launch on Wednesday night, Threads already boasts over 100 million users.
Of course, Threads takes advantage of being a sister application of Instagram, allowing the platform’s over one billion users of the stories feature to sign up with just two clicks, unless they live in the European Union, where it is not yet available.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has provided several updates on the number of Threads users. The app had 10 million users within the first seven hours and over 30 million by Thursday morning. Within 24 hours, that number had more than doubled.
A social network that is very green… and obscure
It is indeed very early for Threads, as the application lacks basic features that many users consider essential. Currently, accessibility options are minimal, as it does not allow adding alternative text to images for screen reader users.
The chronological feed is on its way, but Twitter may still be the preferred application for many to stay up to date with the latest news. Because for many, Twitter is a daily source of news, and Threads should aim to emulate that.
What is undeniable is that Threads’ success has been tremendous. Reaching 100 million users in just one week is a clear sign of success. The key now will be to see who stays and who leaves. But the start is promising, without a doubt.
