The Witcher 3: The Last Wish went into alpha in early 2025, according to the project’s official website. It’s a non-commercial mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that brings Andrzej Sapkowski’s first Witcher book, The Last Wish, into the game as a story-driven prequel.
The early 2025 build adapts “The Lesser Evil” in Blaviken, the official site says, and lets players go through the events that give Geralt the “Butcher of Blaviken” nickname. The team isn’t pitching it as a full new RPG campaign. The goal is a more cinematic faithful action-adventure experience. It leans on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s combat, questing, and exploration systems to recreate short-story material the games never adapted scene by scene, with custom quests, new characters, tailored environments, volunteer English and Polish voice work, and development led mainly by Samuel Ch using CD Projekt Red’s official REDkit tools.
If you’ve been hoping to see more of Sapkowski’s books adapted straight into a game, this alpha looks worth downloading. The project’s official website says it has already pulled in more than 2,000 downloads, which suggests a lot of fans feel the same.
