20 years ago, Edgar Wright surprised us with Shaun of the Dead, a zombie comedy that quickly became a cult classic. This film not only made us fall in love with the unique blend of humor and horror, but it also catapulted its director and cast, including Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, to stardom.
To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, Focus Features has decided to re-release the film in the United States, presenting a remastered version that includes improvements in Dolby Atmos and Vision, so that fans can relive it on the big screen like never before.

The Day of the Dead party returns to US cinemas
The enthusiasm for this re-release is palpable, especially among the creators of the film. Edgar Wright has expressed what it means to him to see his work return to theaters, describing it as an opportunity for viewers to experience the film “big, loud, and with a lot of red.”
The story, which follows Shaun as he tries to save his friends and family from a zombie invasion, remains as relevant and entertaining as it was two decades ago. Simon Pegg, who co-wrote and starred in the film, has also expressed excitement for the 20th anniversary, but has made it clear that, despite this comeback, there will be no reboots or sequels, as he feels the film is too personal to be replicated or continued.
Despite the current trend in Hollywood of reviving old hits with new versions, Pegg and Wright have decided that Shaun of the Dead should remain as it is. Pegg has been particularly critical of the idea of reboots, recalling his annoyance with Zack Snyder’s remake of Dawn of the Dead, and emphasizing that some stories simply do not need a sequel. So, while we eagerly await to see this gem in theaters again, we can also rest assured knowing that its legacy will remain intact, just as we remember it: funny, terrifying, and totally unique.
