The upcoming Sunday, July 23, 2023, has been designated as the date for the upcoming early elections. As a result, many people have found themselves away from their city due to summer vacations. Nevertheless, you can still exercise your right to vote thanks to mail-in voting.
Deadline for requesting a vote by mail ballot
While previously the deadline was set for July 13th, the Electoral Board has decided to extend this deadline until July 20th, 2023. Mail-in voting could be requested starting from May 30th, both in person and online.
How do I request a vote by mail ballot?
The process of requesting a mail-in ballot is simpler than you might think. As mentioned before, you can do it either in person or from home. If you prefer to do it in person, you should go to your nearest post office with your ID card, driver’s license, or passport.
If you prefer to do it online, you can do so through this link. To identify yourself, you will need your digital certificate or electronic ID.
After submitting the request, Correos (the postal service) will transmit it to the Electoral Census Office. Once they have verified the legitimacy of your data, you just have to wait to receive the documentation between July 3rd and July 16th.
It is important to be at home to personally sign that you have received the documents from Correos. Then, you will be given the ballot, the envelope, your electoral census certificate, and brief instructions on how to complete the process. If you are not available at the time of delivery, you will need to go to your post office and prove that you are the intended recipient of the ballot.
Finally, cast your vote and send it via certified mail. In other words, place your ballot inside the envelope provided (which includes the address of your polling station).
