Since the year 325, it has been a tradition to celebrate Easter Sunday on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring, which is why many people are on vacation this week.
Despite the name, the Pink Moon as such is not pink. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the first full moon of spring is named for the phlox subulata, a flower also known as creeping plox, moss plox or mountain plox.
Both this almanac and NASA itself agree that the Native Americans called this moon this way because it often coincides with the flowering time of this wildflower, which is commonly used as a ground cover.
The Pink Moon could be seen on April 6 at 6 am Spanish time, as a large and bright (but not pink) full moon. Although technically it will no longer be as “full”, you will also be able to see it on the night of April 6, although it will depend on the location and atmospheric circumstances.
