Wind River is back on Netflix in the U.S. as of August 2026, putting Taylor Sheridan’s 2017 crime thriller, and its Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen pairing, back in front of people again.
If you’re catching up on Sheridan’s work beyond Yellowstone, this is one of the early films people still bring up first. It’s a 107-minute neo-Western directed by Sheridan, with Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen in the lead and Jon Bernthal in a key supporting role. The story follows a tracker and a green FBI agent as they investigate the death of a young woman on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming.
Part of why Wind River still lands the way it does comes from what Sheridan set out to do with it. He wrote the film to draw attention to violence against Indigenous women, and that urgency fed into the response: strong reviews, roughly $45 million worldwide on an $11 million budget, and a reputation that put Wind River alongside Sicario and Hell or High Water.
So if Netflix is where you’re filling in the gaps in Taylor Sheridan’s filmography, Wind River is well worth queuing up, especially with Wind River: The Next Chapter in development, even if aren’t confirmed to return.
