After almost two years of waiting, Samsung has presented its first PCIe 5.0 SSD for consumers, the 9100 Pro. This new device aims to effectively compete with other brands that have already launched their own PCIe 5.0 models, such as Crucial, Gigabyte, and Corsair.
Tested in 2024 as the PM9E1, the 9100 Pro offers significant improvements over the previous 990 Pro, virtually doubling the transfer speed thanks to the new PCIe 5.0 interface.
The 9100 Pro promises sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s, an increase of up to 99% compared to its predecessor.

In addition, it improves random read and write speeds to 2,200K IOPS and 2,600K IOPS, respectively. Samsung has also improved energy efficiency, with a 49% increase compared to the 990 Pro, as well as a new heat sink design to better manage thermal performance.
This SSD is designed to be compatible with laptops, desktops, and gaming consoles, and is primarily aimed at creatives working with artificial intelligence content.
The 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB models will be available starting in April 2025, with prices of $199.99, $299.99, and $549.99, respectively. The models with a heat sink will cost slightly more. Additionally, an 8 TB model, the first for consumers from Samsung, is expected to be launched in the second half of the year.
Samsung will include its Magician software with the SSD, which offers tools for disk optimization, data migration, and firmware updates. With this offering, Samsung aims to reaffirm its position in the competitive storage market and meet the growing demand for fast and efficient storage solutions.
