Brave has pushed browser version 1.94, and the big addition on desktop is Email Aliases. The feature lets you sign up for sites without giving out your real email address. Brave says the point is to make email less useful as a tracking tool and to keep your main inbox from ending up scattered all over the web. A single address can connect your activity across different services, and customer lists can still be matched against data from Google, Meta, or LinkedIn even when browser trackers are blocked on the server side.
Using Brave Email Aliases requires a separate Brave Account. Once you’ve set that up, you can generate an alias directly from an email field on a website. Messages sent there are forwarded to your real inbox, while the site never sees your primary address. Brave says it doesn’t read forwarded mail, deletes it from its servers within seconds, and uses OPAQUE so your password isn’t sent in plaintext.
At launch, you get five aliases for free. There isn’t any automatic filtering for newsletters or promotions, but you can deactivate any alias to cut off future mail.
Brave also says unique aliases can help limit spam, phishing, credential stuffing, and the fallout from breaches. One estimate ties phishing to 36% of data breaches, and some 2025 estimates put spam at more than half of all email traffic.
If you’re tired of handing your real email address to every site that asks for it, this update has a clear appeal. Still, a few caveats are hard to ignore: DuckDuckGo Email Protection is already out there, Firefox Relay offers 50 free masks, some sites may block alias domains, and there still aren’t any independent audits.
