Nintendo’s latest earnings release points to a softer second fiscal quarter. Operating profit fell 16% from a year earlier to 73.9 billion yen, or about $467 million.
Revenue dropped 15%. Nintendo said lower sales were the main reason, and Switch 2 hardware was the biggest drag, with unit sales down 41% to 2.67 million. The company had already linked the broader U.S. price increase to $499.99 to higher memory chip costs. Now, with sales slowing, demand is starting to look like the real test.
There were some better numbers in the report too. Nintendo said first-half Switch 2 software sales rose 18.8%, helped by Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Both sold more than 1 million copies. Digital sales also grew, as did revenue from mobile and IP-related business.
If you follow Nintendo closely, that’s the part to keep an eye on. The weakness looks more concentrated in consoles than in what players are spending overall. Nintendo left its full-year outlook unchanged and is still leaning on first-party games, a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and broader IP projects, including films, to lift the second half.
