Keanu Reeves is one of the few Hollywood actors who is almost universally adored. Not only among the public, who see him as a friendly face and an adorable person, but also among professionals. Among his colleagues everyone has kind words for the actor, considered a consummate professional and a lovely person. Or almost everyone. Because director Troy Duffy doesn’t hold the actor in that regard.
A director with a few strong dislikes
The director of The Fifth Hell and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, only has one thing to say about the actor: “I hate Keanu Reeves. He seems like an imbecile to me. I will never make a film with him”. But in fairness, he’s not the only actor he’s gone off about at length. He has also declared that “Ethan Hawke is a talentless idiot,” all of it in the context of the documentary Overnight, directed by Tony Montana and Mark Brian Smith, following his life and exploits.
Why did he make these comments? Actually, we don’t know. Both actors were up for roles in his films, but never ended up appearing in them, so it could very well be due to resentment or something could have happened between them. But the documentary itself presents Duffy as a person with serious ego problems and an abusive personality that suggests it’s hardly a problem with Reeves and Hawke.
While over the years Duffy himself has said he regrets some of his comments, he has never clarified which ones nor why he made them in the first place. So while it seems Reeves has someone in Hollywood who hates him, it seems it’s not for any good reason.
