The reboot of Blade by Marvel Studios has faced multiple challenges since its announcement in the summer of 2019. Mahershala Ali, the actor who will take on the iconic role originally played by Wesley Snipes, has seen the project go through several writers and directors in search of the right story. Although this has raised concerns among fans, actress Mia Goth, who is also part of the cast, claims that the time invested in development is crucial for achieving a good outcome. “It’s better that they take the necessary time,” Goth told Elle. “They want to do it right.”

Despite the expectations generated around this reboot, Blade has had little presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Ali’s only appearance so far was a cameo in the post-credits scene of Eternals, where his voice was heard addressing Dane Whitman, a role played by Kit Harrington. Eternals, however, did not perform well critically or at the box office, which increased uncertainty about the future of the project.
In addition to the development issues, the original idea for Blade, which involved a flashback narrative to the 20th century, failed, leading Marvel to sell the previously designed journalist costumes for the film to the production of Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler. This change reflects the creative challenges that the Blade reboot has faced from the beginning.
Nevertheless, the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has insisted that the movie is still in process and efforts are being made to find the right direction. Despite the skepticism expressed by fans, Feige’s insistence suggests that Marvel is determined not to rush, seeking to ensure that the final result is worth the wait.
