Adrenaline Overdrive announced: retro FPS with John Wick action and Max Payne noir

Rubicon Game Studios has revealed Adrenaline Overdrive, set to hit PC in Q4 2026. It’s a retro-minded first-person shooter, with John Wick-level brutality and a streak of Max Payne-style conspiracy noir running through it.

In Adrenaline Overdrive, you play a former detective in an alternate 1980s where North Korea won the war and Brooklyn has been left in ruins. You’re hunting the Vires syndicate after your brother’s murder, and what begins as revenge keeps widening into something uglier: betrayal, decay, and corporate corruption.

Rubicon says the game’s main hook is SPIKE, a military stimulant that gives you brief bursts of superhuman power while cutting into your own lifespan. The whole thing is built to keep you aggressive, making you decide in the moment whether that extra edge is really worth the cost.

There’s also a catch with weapons: you can only carry one at a time. That means grabbing guns off fallen enemies as you go, which gives the combat a fast, nasty rhythm somewhere between boomer shooter speed and the constant pressure of Hotline Miami.

If you’re into shooters that live or die on movement, this one should probably stay on your radar. On Steam, the Steam Next Fest demo has landed a Mostly Positive rating, with players calling out the pace and feel as strong points, even as they mention bugs and balance issues that solo developer Rubicon Game Studios still needs to iron out.

You can play the free demo on Steam now, and the full PC release is still planned for Q4 2026.
