The horror and science fiction movie Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End has made a name for itself on the Prime Video platform, becoming the most-watched International Original movie of all time on the service. Based on the eponymous novel by Galician author Manel Loureiro, published in 2008, the story unfolds in a dystopian Pontevedra, devastated by a virus that transforms humans into aggressive undead that threaten the survival of what little remains of humanity.
Zombies made in Galicia are back
Through the journey of the protagonist Manel, played by Francisco Ortiz, the film captures the struggle for survival in a context of chaos. Despite receiving a warning from the government to take refuge in safe areas, Manel decides to barricade himself in his home with his cat Lúculo. However, as supplies dwindle, he is forced to venture out and, on his way, encounters unexpected allies and deadly enemies.
The notable success of the first installment led Prime Video to quickly announce a sequel, Apocalipsis Z: Part II, whose production has recently begun and is scheduled to premiere in 2026. This new installment will once again be directed by Carles Torrens and presents the story from a new perspective in the Canary Islands, which have become Europe’s last refuge against the outbreak of the TSJ virus.
The sequel introduces a new protagonist, Roberto, played by Carlos Alcaide, who joins a mission to search for vital supplies. As the situation becomes critical, Roberto and his team face hordes of infected, testing not only their survival but also their loyalties. With a cast that includes new additions like Julia Martínez and Mónica López, anticipation for this continuation continues to grow, raising crucial questions about morality and sacrifice in times of crisis.
