After The Continental, John Wick will continue to expand with a series… and an anime, because those involved love all Japanese animation
John Wick is a franchise that has grown enough to be unstoppable. Whether The Continental succeeds or not doesn’t matter: there will be new installments of John Wick and there will be new spinoffs. It’s a winning horse, and everyone wants to exploit the mythical figure of Keanu Reeves’ character and the universe he inhabits. This is something the movie director has understood, having confirmed they’re already working on several projects.
Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick, has confirmed that there are two more television projects, aside from The Continental, currently in progress within the universe of the most famous fictional assassin. And one of them is an anime.
Stahelski made this statement on The Playlist podcast. Specifically, he said, “We’re really excited about it (the second TV series); we’re really excited because we’re doing that and a Japanese anime because I love Japanese anime. So, creating all those stories that anime can do better than what we could do and the TV show to expand our world, we’ll have our share too, you know what I mean? We can have it all.”
We need to remember that, ultimately, Stahelski is very involved in the John Wick universe. Up until 2023, he has directed the first four John Wick movies and produced the franchise’s first spinoff film, Ballerina, set to premiere in 2024. Furthermore, for the coming year, he’s already booked: he will direct the action scenes for Shinichiro Watanabe’s upcoming anime, Lazarus.
In other words, it seems like Chad Stahelski is going to be as busy as John Wick and his universe. One thing we can definitely say about this is that we’re certainly coming out on top.
