Amazon confirms it: drone deliveries will arrive in Europe next year
Amazon’s long-awaited drone delivery service, which has been talked about for many years, is now closer than ever. In fact, Amazon has confirmed that the first European countries to start receiving drone deliveries in 2024 will be the United Kingdom and Italy. However, there is still no exact date for the launch of this service, which will begin at some point next year.
Amazon has not provided details on when this system might arrive in Spain, but the initial tests in Italy and the UK will pave the way for other countries to receive a service tailored to the specific requirements of offering such deliveries in European territory. It’s also a service with necessary requirements to be met for its implementation.
Among the fundamental requirements to access the drone delivery service, being an Amazon Prime member is necessary. Therefore, any free user planning to make a purchase to enjoy drone delivery will have to sign up for Prime and pay their annual fee. The other major requirement, also crucial, will be having favorable geographical availability at the delivery point, as a drone cannot enter just any place.
This implies that the drone will need a clear enough space for it to carry out the landing operation, package unloading (which, as a requirement, cannot weigh more than 2.3kg), and take off to return to its sending point. These deliveries can be made in just 30 minutes; however, for that reason, within each country, only selected areas will have this service available.

In this way, Amazon is also trying to enhance its cloud service infrastructure to differentiate itself from its most direct competition through a lucrative agreement with Microsoft.
