This whole Apple Intelligence and Europe situation is becoming a tug of war. Everything was going well until Apple had to withdraw its arrival due to the direct memory access (DMA). Since then, we have noticed that we can actually try Apple Intelligence from Europe, but only on the Mac. What looked like a trick or a resource that could disappear at any moment, now seems to be intentional. Despite everything, Apple Intelligence will officially arrive in Europe, although not as we expected as it will only be available on the Mac.
Apple Intelligence should definitely come to Mac
According to the release notes of the recent macOS Sequoia 15.1 developer beta 1, Mac users in the European Union will be able to enjoy Apple’s artificial intelligence capabilities, as long as we initially set the language to American English.
DMA initially only affected the iPhone, but the European Union stated that although the iPad did not meet the requirements and should be excluded from this regulation, it was still included. However, the Mac is exempt from the effects of the regulation, which has also caused Meta not to bring its AI to Europe.
As reported by 9to5mac, while the release notes for iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 indicate that Apple intelligence is not available in Europe and China, the release notes for macOS 15.1 only indicate that it is not available in China.
It is true that when it comes to a beta, things can change, but this news is encouraging. The truth is that in the first beta of macOS 15.1, Apple Intelligence works. We just need to set up the Mac with the United States since, for now, Apple Intelligence is only available in English.
It is also true that some features, such as creating memories with phrases in the Photos app, have not yet arrived on Mac, while they have on iPhone and iPad. Meanwhile, as Apple continues to work on bringing Apple Intelligence to iPhone and iPad in Europe, we will have to wait.
So, we will wait for an upcoming beta version, the expansion to more languages of Apple’s AI, and hopefully, its arrival to other operating systems that already enjoy Apple’s Intelligence worldwide. We eagerly away this feature, that will be the star of the iPhone 16 (although this does not alter its release schedule). It is expected to completely change how we use our devices, and the wait will be worth it.
