Apple unveils iPhone Duo: its first foldable iPhone lands in October

Apple used its September 2026 event to introduce the iPhone Duo, a book-style foldable iPhone. It’s set to arrive in October, with prices starting at $1,999.

Apple says the device combines a 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner screen, along with an A20 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM. The idea is simple enough: you get a compact phone when it’s closed, then open it up and it works more like a small notebook for reading, multitasking, and watching videos. Apple describes the iPhone Duo, when folded shut, as passport-sized, with proportions similar to an A5 page.

The company is also putting a lot of weight on the build. Apple says the iPhone Duo uses a custom variable-torque hinge so it sits flatter in use, plus a polymer-glass and nano-texture display stack meant to make the crease almost disappear. On the software side, Apple says the experience draws from the iPad, Mac, and iPhone, so opening the device feels less like jumping into a different mode and more like giving the same experience extra space.

The iPhone Duo is the first major new hardware category Apple has launched under CEO John Ternus, and it’s a very intentional late move into foldables. If you’ve been waiting for a premium foldable that feels more mainstream, this one looks like a serious contender. Analysts think the iPhone Duo could give the foldables market a lift, make Apple a real competitor to Samsung, and ship roughly 5 million units by the end of 2026.

You’ll be able to buy the iPhone Duo from Apple in October.
