Arc Raiders gets its Frozen Trail update on October 8, and one of the headline changes is a complete performance rework for Celeste.
Embark Studios says Celeste’s older setup, which relied on text-to-speech and fairly limited facial animation, is being swapped out for full motion capture and more detailed facial performance based on actor Diana Gardner. The studio’s reasoning is pretty direct: the earlier version didn’t have much expressive range, could pull players out of the moment, and didn’t always carry the weight the story needed. You’ll get the first real look at the overhaul in a trailer dropping October 6.
According to Embark, this is only the start. The studio says it wants more NPCs to look and feel closer to their real-world actors, both in cinematics and during normal gameplay. If that lands, the atmosphere should feel thicker, the tension sharper, and the world itself a little more convincing as the game keeps growing after launch.
If you’re invested in Arc Raiders for the story, this update seems like one to download. For a lot of players, it feels less like a bonus and more like a fix the game needed. That said, some of you will still want Embark putting bug fixes, anti-cheat measures, and weapon balance first. It also drives home a point the industry keeps circling back to: big narrative roles usually work better with actual human performances, even when that costs more.
The update goes live in Arc Raiders on October 8. Embark Studios also says the game has sold more than 16 million copies since launching in October 2025, so it’s pretty clear the studio has the budget to spend on polish along with new content.
