In view of this, Northwest Repair has highlighted an incident experienced by one of these customers, who had bought a second-hand GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card from an individual on Facebook Marketplace, only to realize that the unit had been stripped of its most vital components.
Well, this is certainly not new, as we see buyers becoming victims of this type of fraud quite often simply due to lack of knowledge or deception by the seller.
After realizing that the GPU was not working, the victim took the defective unit to a nearby technology store, where they were told that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 they had purchased was fried, and they were offered to buy it for 200 dollars.
The victim rejected the offer, hoping that their GPU would sell for an even higher price, but they didn’t realize what was coming their way and that offer was the best they could have received.
When the unit was sent to Northwest Repair, upon opening it, it was shocking to witness that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 had been completely removed from the GPU and memory, and was literally empty inside.
This means that the buyer only received the original PCB of the card, and the components were probably sold separately for profit.
This is the dark side of second-hand markets, and we advise users not to resort to them for their purchases unless they come from verified sources.
