Captain America keeps Sentinel of Liberty: Marvel brings it back in a new What If…?

Captain America keeps Sentinel of Liberty: Marvel brings it back in a new What If…?

Marvel Comics’ What If…? Captain America #1 lands on August 5, 2026. Marvel is framing Steve Rogers here as the “Sentinel of Liberty,” but not as a replacement for Captain America.

The issue sends Steve into 2099, though “Sentinel of Liberty” isn’t some brand-new label Marvel just came up with. The company already used it in 2022’s Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, released alongside Sam Wilson’s Symbol of Truth. That Sentinel of Liberty run also spent time digging into Captain America’s shield and the Outer Circle.

Marvel has been reworking Steve Rogers’ look in other places too. There’s the battle-damaged armored costume and metal breastplate from 2026’s Avengers: Armageddon, shown during a fight with Red Hulk. Then you’ve got the Galactic Talon costume in Marvel Future Fight and the Seaside Sentinel skin in Marvel Rivals.

If you keep up with Captain America across comics, games, or Marvel Cinematic Universe rumor cycles, this one feels like another clear sign that Marvel wants several versions of Steve in play at the same time. That stands out even more with all the Avengers: Doomsday speculation, especially the talk about a possible return as Nomad while Sam Wilson remains the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America.

You can pick up What If…? Captain America #1 from Marvel Comics on August 5, 2026.

Marvel’s Blade reboot is canceled: Deadpool & Wolverine’s joke is now real

Marvel’s Blade reboot is canceled: Deadpool & Wolverine’s joke is now real

By August 2026, Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot was, for all practical purposes, dead. The film had been announced back in 2019 with Mahershala Ali attached, then spent years in limbo, never made it to production, and in the process gave Deadpool & Wolverine’s funniest Blade joke a much stranger, more awkward aftertaste.

Disney+
Disney+ Download

Marvel announced the project in 2019, but over the next seven years Blade never got in front of cameras. Reports pointed to a revolving door of writers, and directors, repeated trouble finding a script that actually worked, the added disruption of the 2023 writers’ strike, release-date slippage from 2023 to 2025, and then, eventually, quiet removal from Marvel’s calendar altogether.

By August 2026, Ali was openly saying he’d moved on. He also said the movie would’ve happened if Marvel had really wanted to make it. That pretty much closed the book on Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot.

And if you’ve followed this saga the whole way through, the odd result is hard to miss: Wesley Snipes is, once again, the only actor who’s actually played Blade in a released movie.

That also changes the feel of Snipes’ Deadpool & Wolverine cameo. His line, “There’s only been one Blade, there’s only ever gonna be one Blade,” played as a meta joke at the time. Now it reads like an accidental statement of record.

Kevin Feige had already admitted in July 2026 that he felt like a “gigantic loser and failure” over not getting Blade made with Ali, adding that the various scripts never cleared Marvel’s bar.

So Snipes still stands alone. And now there are fresh questions around Arkane Lyon’s Blade game too, along with reports that some staff tied to that project had gone unpaid.

Nikita gets rediscovered: Maggie Q’s spy action thriller still hits hard

Nikita gets rediscovered: Maggie Q’s spy action thriller still hits hard

People have been circling back to Nikita lately, and it’s easy to see why. During its 2010 to 2013 run, the CW action-thriller never really got its due, even though it delivered relentless hand-to-hand combat and a conspiracy-loaded espionage story that felt a lot more grown-up than the network’s usual mix.

Led by Maggie Q, this take on Luc Besson’s La Femme Nikita and the 1997 Canadian TV version follows a rogue assassin who goes after Division, the covert agency that trained her. The show plays like a collision between John Wick and James Bond: surveillance, deception, off-the-books missions, loyalties that keep shifting. What really sets it apart, though, is the tone. It’s darker, rougher, and more grounded than Bond, and miles away from most CW teen dramas or supernatural romances.

A lot of that edge came from the physical side of the show. The stunt work felt practical. Maggie Q handled much of the action herself. The fights pulled from Krav Maga and Kali, the gunfights had weight, and the takedowns looked like they actually hurt. Then there was Amanda, and the psychological war she wages with Nikita. Add in the show’s moral gray areas and the fact that Maggie Q said she was the first Asian American lead in a broadcast drama, and the series had real significance beyond the action. It also got something a lot of genre shows don’t: a proper ending, with creator Craig Silverstein wrapping it up in a conclusive six-episode final season. Reviews were strong, and its reputation has only gotten better with time as an early example of cinematic network action.

If hard-edged spy thrillers are your thing, give Nikita a shot. You can find it on streaming services or digital platforms available in your region.

Stillwater reportedly climbs streaming charts again: fresh attention, no clear proof

Stillwater reportedly climbs streaming charts again: fresh attention, no clear proof

Matt Damon’s 2021 drama Stillwater has reportedly climbed back into the streaming and VOD Top 10 over the past few days. It’s drawing fresh attention again, even if there’s still no clear public evidence of a wider breakout.

Netflix
Netflix Download

Right now, the main charts and the analytics people usually cite don’t show exactly where Stillwater is trending, or how strong that rise really is. So the safest read is simple: people are talking about a rebound, but it hasn’t been fully pinned down in public data.

What we do know for sure is that the movie already had one real revival on Netflix. In January 2024, Stillwater made Netflix’s Global Top 10 with 12.7 million hours watched, which Netflix’s own Global Top 10 data translated to 5.5 million views.

For a movie that had only a modest theatrical run, that’s a pretty big second life. And with Damon back in view because of The Rip and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, some viewers may be circling back to older titles.

Tom McCarthy directed Stillwater, which follows an Oklahoma oil worker who heads to Marseille after his daughter is jailed for murder. Reviews leaned positive, especially when it came to Damon’s performance. Still, some critics weren’t sold on the pacing or the movie’s tonal shifts, and the Amanda Knox controversy continues to shape the way people see it.

If you tend to keep up with Matt Damon’s dramas, this reported uptick is something to keep an eye on. You can always check your local streaming and VOD platforms to see whether it’s available.

Prime Video’s Young Sherlock is already renewed for season 2

Prime Video’s Young Sherlock is already renewed for season 2

Prime Video has renewed Young Sherlock, its Guy Ritchie-led prequel series starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin, for a second season. New episodes are already in production after season 1 debuted on March 4, 2026, according to the streamer.

Amazon Prime Video

Prime Video says the show pulled in 45 million viewers over its first 28 days, hit No. 1 in more than 95 countries, and drew 63% of its audience from outside the U.S., with especially strong numbers in the U.K., India, and Germany.

The first season runs eight episodes and drops viewers into a younger take on Sherlock: a 19-year-old Oxford student who gets dragged from a campus murder into a global conspiracy. There’s also a Moriarty wrinkle, with Dónal Finn’s character playing a friend and fellow student.

The trailer racked up 223 million views in seven days, according to Prime Video, and Rotten Tomatoes currently has the series at 84% from critics and 86% from audiences. Reviews have singled out Ritchie’s pace, the production values, and the chemistry between the leads. If you’re into polished Sherlock reboots, this one’s probably worth a look.

Season 2 entered production in late July 2026, Prime Video said. Guy Ritchie is back to direct episode 1, while Olivia Williams, Indira Varma, Sophie Skelton, and Aidan Gillen are joining the cast. Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, and Numan Acar won’t be back.

All eight episodes of season 1 are streaming on Prime Video now.

Marvel announces Maximum X-Men: Betsy Braddock is Psylocke again

Marvel announces Maximum X-Men: Betsy Braddock is Psylocke again

Marvel has set Maximum X-Men for December 2026, and with it comes a familiar name: Betsy Braddock is back as Psylocke.

Marvel Unlimited
Marvel Unlimited Download

The series comes from writer Christopher Yost and artist Tony S. Daniel. It spins out of Avengers: Armageddon and centers on a new X-Men team led by Storm. But the part people are going to argue about isn’t the lineup. It’s what Betsy Braddock taking back the Psylocke codename means for Kwannon.

That pulls an old thread right back into the spotlight. In 1989, Marvel ran the body-swap story that placed Betsy, a white British telepath, in the body of Kwannon, a Japanese assassin. That’s the version that turned Psylocke into the purple-haired “psychic ninja” a lot of readers still picture first, and it’s also the version that drew years of criticism over representation and racial appropriation.

— Celebs&Chaos (@CelebsChaos) July 25, 2026

Marvel looked like it had put that issue to bed in 2018’s Hunt for Wolverine, when the two characters were separated again. After that, Betsy Braddock moved into the role of Captain Britain, while Kwannon carried the Psylocke name through Hellions, Marauders, and then a 2024 solo series.

So if you keep up with X-Men continuity, this is one to watch closely. Fans are already split. Some still see Betsy Braddock as the original Psylocke, or at least the most iconic one. Others see this as Marvel sliding backward, especially since the company still hasn’t said what Kwannon’s codename or role will be. Even X-Men editor Tom Brevoort has described Betsy Braddock as a “messy situation.”

Maximum X-Men hits from Marvel in December 2026.

Dune, Fast & Furious and more enter the endgame

Dune, Fast & Furious and more enter the endgame

Some of Hollywood’s biggest franchises are starting to look like they’re heading for the finish line, at least in their current versions. Dune, The Hunger Games, Fast & Furious, and Jumanji all have planned stopping points on the horizon as studios get warier of franchise burnout, ballooning budgets, and a global box office that doesn’t feel as dependable as it used to.

JustWatch
JustWatch Download

Denis Villeneuve has long talked about Dune as a three-film story, and Dune Messiah is now in development as his final chapter. Katniss Everdeen’s arc already ended with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, but that series has kept going through prequels. Sunrise on the Reaping is set for November 20, 2026, and whatever comes after will probably depend on whether Suzanne Collins decides to write more.

Fast & Furious is still expected to wrap its main storyline with Fast Forever in 2028, even if the spin-offs keep going. Jumanji looks to be in a similar spot. Dwayne Johnson has said the next film will end the current cast’s run, which started in 2017 and has already brought in more than $1.7 billion worldwide.

Studios have a reason to be careful. Franchise fatigue is real. Sequels are landing less consistently, audiences are pickier about what they show up for, and even big tentpoles like Fast X can run into real questions about profit once production and marketing costs climb high enough.

If you keep up with franchise news, watch this closely. These movies are going to play out in theaters while streaming keeps giving people more reasons to stay home, and overseas markets, especially China, are getting harder to predict and more driven by local-language hits.

Game of Thrones: Conquest adds Rebellion PvP finale: play now

Game of Thrones: Conquest adds Rebellion PvP finale: play now

Zynga has refreshed Game of Thrones: Rebellion in Game of Thrones: Conquest for July 2026, giving players a limited-time PvP finale to close out the Freedom in Essos arc.

Game of Thrones: Conquest
Game of Thrones: Conquest Download

Rebellion isn’t some brand-new spin-off. It’s the recurring Essos warfare weekend where you and your kingdom fight to capture and hold Seats of Power during scheduled active windows and downtime. That makes this a coordinated, reward-focused endgame event, not a casual side mode and not something built with new players in mind.

This round of Rebellion wraps up Zynga’s Freedom in Essos event, which ran from July 1 to July 24 and leaned into a Daenerys theme built around the liberation of Slaver’s Bay. It also says something about how Warner Bros. is still keeping the franchise busy: Game of Thrones: Conquest continues to get support alongside Game of Thrones: Kingsroad content and the planned 2027 RTS, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros.

If you play Game of Thrones: Conquest regularly, this update is probably worth picking up. Still, it’s fair to go in knowing the game remains divisive because of its long-running pay-to-win criticism, even after bringing in more than $214 million by April 2019, and coverage of this event is still pretty thin outside the US.

You can play Game of Thrones: Rebellion now in Game of Thrones: Conquest on mobile.

Forge of the Fae gets a free Steam demo: JRPG meets Celtic steampunk

Forge of the Fae now has a free demo on Steam, so you can jump in right away and see what this Celtic-inspired JRPG is doing. The pitch lands somewhere between Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, with a bit of The Legend of Zelda and Stardew Valley in the mix. As indie RPGs go, Forge of the Fae catches the eye fast, thanks to its polished pixel art and a steampunk setting drawn from 1800s Ireland. You play as a young inventor named Fiora, moving through rising fae-human tensions and a string of strange disappearances, with story choices that help steer where things go.

Datadyne LLC says the combat is built around the ARC Crystal System, which lets players customize spells and abilities, along with an Adrenaline mechanic. And going by early player reactions, people aren’t just showing up for the retro vibe. A lot of the praise so far has gone to the visuals and the combat itself.

If retro RPGs, Celtic folklore, and steampunk stories are your thing, this demo looks like an easy one to pick up. Forge of the Fae’s Kickstarter campaign says the game raised $226,782 from a $15,000 goal. It’s being published by Deck13 and, according to Datadyne LLC, the full release is planned for 2027 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

The Odyssey watchlist gets updated: 11 movies to watch now

The Odyssey watchlist gets updated: 11 movies to watch now

The Odyssey watchlist just got an update: 11 movies that line up with the current pop-culture wave around Homer’s The Odyssey, covering everything from monsters and gods to war and the almost impossible trip back home.

JustWatch
JustWatch Download

Troy is the obvious companion, since it covers the Trojan War that sends Odysseus away in the first place. O Brother, Where Art Thou? moves Homer into the Depression-era South, with a one-eyed threat and a string of seductive detours along the way. Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonauts go all in on creatures, meddling gods, and heroic quests. 300 and Immortals bring stylized Greek warfare, brutal battles, and heroes forced to face fate head-on. The Northman adds Norse prophecy, violence, and kingship. Gladiator drops the mythic frame, but keeps the core of a warrior trying to reclaim honor, family, and home. Cast Away and Life of Pi stay with isolation , ingenuity, and the psychological toll of survival. The Revenant turns a punishing trek through the wilderness, full of pain and near-certain death , into a mythic test of identity.

If you’re looking for films that hit those same nerves, survival against impossible odds, the pull of losing your way, and the burden of coming home after war, this update is worth a look.

You can stream these titles now on major rental and subscription platforms, depending on your region.
