Xbox hacked account ruling: Brazilian court orders Microsoft to restore games

Xbox hacked account ruling: Brazilian court orders Microsoft to restore games

A Brazilian court has ordered Microsoft to restore hacked Xbox user Ordo_Liberal’s account and digital games, giving the company 15 days to do it.

Microsoft Authenticator

Ordo_Liberal says Microsoft support confirmed the account had been accessed without authorization and that its security details had been changed. Even so, support said customer service couldn’t recover the profile and could only suspend it permanently.

The ruling says that left Ordo_Liberal locked out of the account and, allegedly, being told to buy the games again, even though two-factor authentication was enabled. The court also awarded about $400 for emotional distress, added daily fines, and said stronger enforcement could follow if Microsoft ignores the order.

Microsoft hadn’t commented at the time of writing.

If you buy games on Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, or Nintendo, this case is one to watch. In most cases, what you own is a revocable license, so a banned, suspended, or hacked account can wipe out a library you paid for.

The timing matters, too. Pressure is building in Brazil around digital-only games, and the Stop Killing Games campaign gained momentum after Ubisoft shut down The Crew.

The dispute hinges on Brazil’s consumer-friendly laws and its small-claims system, which can sometimes be used without hiring your own lawyer. The ruling applies locally, but it’s easy to see why similar protections would matter in Japan, South Korea, Australia, and on Microsoft’s Xbox platform.

Christopher Barrett settles with Bungie and Sony: $200 million lawsuit ends

Christopher Barrett settles with Bungie and Sony: $200 million lawsuit ends

A joint statement and the court filings show that Christopher Barrett has settled his lawsuit with Bungie and Sony over his 2024 firing, closing out a claim that had sought as much as $200 million. The terms, including any payout, haven’t been disclosed, but both sides said Barrett’s 25 years at Bungie are being recognized, and his name has been added to Marathon‘s credits as original Game Director. Barrett said he’s “very satisfied” with the outcome and can now turn to the next chapter of his gaming career.

In his lawsuit, Barrett argued that the firing was a way to avoid paying out tens of millions in vested stock and bonuses connected to Sony’s $3.6 billion deal for Bungie. He also said he was turned into a scapegoat for broader business and reputation problems. Bungie and Sony took the opposite position, saying Barrett was fired for cause after an internal investigation into alleged inappropriate behavior involving female employees.

For people who follow Bungie or Sony, the settlement clears away one of the bigger legal disputes hanging over a stretch that already included layoffs in 2023 and 2024, reported cuts tied to Destiny and Marathon, and Sony’s fiscal 2025 impairment loss of 766 million linked to weaker performance from Destiny 2 and Marathon.

The public details are in the joint statement and the court filings.

EVE Online’s Carbon engine goes open source: Trinity and Destiny hit GitHub

EVE Online’s Carbon engine goes open source: Trinity and Destiny hit GitHub

Fenris Creations has opened up major pieces of EVE Online’s Carbon engine on GitHub today, including Trinity, Destiny, and more than two dozen graphics, physics, and simulation modules. Trinity is the graphics side. Destiny handles physics and pathfinding for the massive fleet fights EVE Online is famous for, which makes this feel like a real engine release, not just a token gesture.

Most of that code is being published under the MIT License, Fenris Creations says, so the terms are pretty generous. You can use it, change it, and redistribute it for tools, prototypes, plus fan or community projects.

The studio says it wants the release to lead to shared improvements, more transparency, and better long-term support across the broader EVE universe. At the same time, it’s not pretending there aren’t risks around bots, cheats, and security, and it isn’t putting every sensitive live-service system out in the open.

If you keep up with EVE Online or work in game tech, this one’s probably worth a look, especially because Fenris Creations says it spoke with the Godot team before making the move. Early reaction from the community also looks good so far, with developers and players already poking through the code to see how EVE Online’s large-scale systems actually work.

You can browse the released Carbon modules now, and download them directly from Fenris Creations’ GitHub.

Avatar Legends reveals Year 1 DLC at EVO 2026: fans pick the final fighter

At EVO 2026, Gameplay Group International and PM Studios pulled back the curtain on most of the Year 1 DLC for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, their 1-on-1 2D fighter. Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong, and Bolin are all confirmed for post-launch, joining the game after the 12-character base roster is already in place.

Steam

The game launches digitally on July 23, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are still on the way later in 2026.

There’s also a fifth Year 1 DLC fighter tied to pre-orders, and that one’s being left up to a community vote. The choices are Amon, Kuvira, King Bumi, Asami, and Tenzin.

Year 1 is being divided right down the middle between Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.

So if you’re planning to pick it up digitally, July 23, 2026 is the date to watch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Switch and Switch 2 players will have to wait a little longer, with those versions scheduled for later in 2026.

Pre-ordering also gets you into a closed beta running from July 2 through July 5, 2026, along with cosmetic bonuses. Full cross-play will be there at launch too.

At $29.99, this has the feel of a pretty easy recommendation if you’re after a cheaper fighting game with a cast people already know.

Pre-orders are live now on the platforms that have been announced so far.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves adds Kenshiro in June 2026: Season 2 gets a huge crossover

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves adds Kenshiro in June 2026: Season 2 gets a huge crossover

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves just confirmed Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star for its Season 2 DLC, due in June 2026. Players will also be able to get their hands on him at EVO 2026. That gives City of the Wolves one of the reboot’s biggest crossover additions so far, and puts him front and center after earlier Season 2 reveals like Blue Mary and Wolfgang Krauser.

Steam

If you play Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves a lot, this already feels like a pretty easy buy when it drops. Kenshiro’s Hokuto Shinken style and those famously savage finishers sound like they should fit the REV system really well. SNK still has to make sure all that power doesn’t turn into a tournament balance problem, though.

It also makes sense for Fatal Fury specifically, especially for a series that only recently returned after a 26-year break between mainline games.

The timing seems to line up with the new Fist of the North Star anime project. Meanwhile, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves keeps picking up Steam with strong reviews, a Very Positive recent rating on Steam, an estimated 118,000 Steam sales, retail sales in Japan reported at just under 9,000 units in two weeks, and solid player bases in the US, Mexico, and Brazil.

Kenshiro hits Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as Season 2 DLC in June 2026, and if you don’t want to wait that long, you’ll be able to try him early at EVO 2026.

Nintendo Music now has Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment soundtrack

Nintendo Music now has Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment soundtrack

Nintendo Music just got a sizable Zelda-related addition: the full Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment soundtrack is now live in the app. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can stream all 69 tracks, which adds up to 3 hours and 35 minutes of music.

Nintendo Music

Until now, there wasn’t a way to hear the complete Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment score outside the game.

The Switch 2 exclusive launched in November 2025 as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its music was composed by Monaca, the same team known for NieR. People have praised the soundtrack for its huge, cinematic battle pieces, but also for the quieter, more atmospheric tracks that pull from Hyrule’s mood and setting.

Nintendo Music itself debuted in October 2024, and the app has seen a steady run of updates through 2026. Those updates have brought in more Mario Kart World songs, plus web browser support, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. That suggests Nintendo sees the service, still limited as it is, as something bigger than a throwaway extra.

If you follow Zelda closely, or just use Nintendo Music a lot, this one is probably worth a look.

The soundtrack drop also helps Nintendo keep attention on the Switch 2. The console launched on June 5, 2025, cleared 6 million sales in Japan by May 2026, and reached 1 million units sold in the UK faster than the original Switch did.

You can listen through the Nintendo Music app with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, though the service is still only available in 49 regions.

Enterprise AI spending cools: companies cut model use as tokenmaxxing ends

Enterprise AI spending cools: companies cut model use as tokenmaxxing ends

Companies aren’t treating enterprise AI budgets like a contest to see who can burn the most tokens anymore. The conversation has shifted to control: keep token use from spiraling, set hard limits, and put guardrails around chatbots, coding assistants, and AI agents.

GitHub Copilot
GitHub Copilot Download

At the top end, those costs have reportedly reached $7,500 per employee each month. Agent-based workflows can drive the bill higher still, even while per-token prices keep dropping. Global spending is projected to hit $2.59 trillion in 2026, yet only 28% of finance leaders in a Deloitte survey said they see clear value. So the mood is changing. Companies are looking at budgets now, not chasing growth at any price.

You can already see it across the industry. AT&T has pulled back on GitHub Copilot. Meta has reduced its use of Anthropic and other models. Uber reportedly blew through its 2026 budget for coding tools by April, then put a $1,500 monthly cap per tool in place for employees.

Walmart is tightening control over its in-house agent. Amazon removed a usage leaderboard after employees started gaming it and pushing compute costs up. At Microsoft, some engineers were spending anywhere from $500 to $2,000 a month on Claude Code tokens.

If you’re in charge of rolling out AI at your company, keep an eye on this. The same shift shows up in the new controls from Microsoft, Databricks, and Nvidia-backed Factory, which routes simpler tasks to cheaper models.

And companies are adjusting in different ways. More of them are sending basic AI work to smaller or open-source systems, while Box says it never pushed heavy usage in the first place, and Databricks still gives engineers unlimited budgets.
