Steam achievement stats for Larian Studios’ RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 suggest a lot of you are hitting restart before the game really gets going.
The numbers on Steam tell the story: 89.1% of players made it through the Nautiloid tutorial, but only 50.2% got out of Act 1. That’s not a perfect way to measure drop-off, since some people buy the game and never boot it up, and some mods turn achievements off, but it still lines up with the very Baldur’s Gate 3 habit of starting over.
A lot of that comes down to plain old restartitis. It’s not always that people get bored and walk away. Sometimes you just decide a Bard sounds more fun than the Paladin you picked, or that Dark Urge suddenly feels like a better idea than a custom Tav.
And Act 1 really does make that easy. With 12 classes, subclasses, races, backgrounds, moral paths, and changes to dialogue, companion reactions, quest outcomes, and smaller story beats, it can feel like a full game by itself, stuffed with companions, major quests, hidden encounters, and choices that actually matter.
Then Act 2 arrives with the darker Shadow-Cursed Lands, and that can kill your momentum a bit. If you’re still getting used to D&D 5e, a clunky build or shaky resource management, stealth, and combat can make starting fresh feel like the better call.
For Larian Studios, that isn’t necessarily bad news. Running Act 1 again can still count as engagement, and patches, epilogues, balance updates, official mod support, and mods that add classes, spells, companions, and cosmetics keep handing players new excuses to reroll. You can get Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam.
