Game Science has finally pulled back the curtain on Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the Chinese studio’s next Black Myth game. It was revealed through a 15-minute Unreal Engine 5 gameplay trailer released by Game Science, and from the look of it, this is an expansion of the series rather than a direct sequel to Black Myth: Wukong.
That first trailer makes the technical pitch right away. The environments are crowded with detail, the lighting is dramatic, the character models look meticulously built, and both the combat and traversal have a fluidity that’s hard to miss.
The biggest change is the protagonist. This time, Sun Wukong gives way to Zhong Kui, a ghost-slaying figure from Chinese folklore, and that swap pushes the game into darker territory shaped by justice, damnation, and redemption. The combat seems to follow suit. It looks more grounded, leaning on swordplay, martial arts, parries, and elemental attacks instead of the acrobatic staff work that defined Black Myth: Wukong.
So if you were waiting for Wukong 2, this probably isn’t that. Still, it looks like something worth keeping an eye on, especially since the early reaction online has been very positive, and because Game Science is now working under the weight of Black Myth: Wukong selling 10 million copies in three days.
For now, though, there’s nothing to download. Game Science still hasn’t announced a release date, and current reporting points to a possible 2028 launch.
